A Spotlight on Gestational Diabetes

Posted by Rachel Bear on Nov 15, 2018

November marks National Diabetes Awareness Month, and this year, it spotlights gestational diabetes.

Did you know that gestational diabetes brings an increased risk to developing type 2 diabetes? According to the CDC, 2%-10% of all pregnancies in the United States are affected by gestational diabetes, and nearly 50% of women who develop gestational diabetes go on to develop type 2 diabetes. And there’s more risk than to just the mother – a pregnancy effected by gestational diabetes also gives the child a lifetime risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

According to a recent Lightspeed Health survey among US and UK women diagnosed with gestational diabetes, 76% of mothers’ blood sugar returned to normal after pregnancy. What else did they have to say about their experiences? See our infographic below and contact us for the full data set.
